Two kinds of locksmithing in one: the old town and the beach
The coloured houses of Villajoyosa's old town, the ones looking over the river and the sea from Calle Colón and the streets around it, have narrow wooden doors with rim locks fifty or sixty years old, some still with big lever keys. The 29 € locksmith who comes from Benidorm with a different bill
As Villajoyosa has hardly any locksmiths of its own, calls end up with call centres in Benidorm or Alicante advertising openings from 29 €. The technician who arrives knows nothing about old doors, drills, fits a 10 € cylinder and charges 300 €, with the trip from Benidorm as a separate item. On a wooden door in the old town the damage is worse than the price.

Yes. Fifty-year-old rim locks and big-key lever locks are opened with skeleton keys and picks, without drilling the door. It costs 60-90 € by day. If the lock is too worn for a clean opening, we tell you before touching it. Afterwards we can repair it or fit a modern one without changing the door.
How long do you take to reach Villajoyosa?
Between 20 and 40 minutes, because we set off from Benidorm. Playa Centro, the old town and Poble Nou are usually at the low end; Montíboli, Torres and Cala de Finestrat at the top end. At night the time is similar and the night opening rate applies, 90-150 €.
Do you charge a call-out from Benidorm?
Not if you go ahead with the job. The fixed price we give you by WhatsApp already includes the trip. Only if we end up doing nothing once there, for instance because the key turns up, do we charge 35 € for the call-out. It is the same rule we apply across the Costa Blanca outside Alicante and Valencia city.
The beach flat has been shut since October and the key will not turn. What is going on?
The salt has seized the cylinder, very common in Playa Centro and Paraíso in June. Do not force it, because the key snaps inside. Almost always we free it with dry lubricant; if the cam is pitted, we replace it with a nickel-plated cylinder for 40-60 € plus the cylinder, on the same visit.
Can you fit a security lock without changing the old door?
Yes. We fit a modern rim lock with an anti-bump cylinder on the inside face, keeping the door, the old lock and the outside fittings, so the frontage does not change. It costs 80-150 € in labour plus the lock. It is the usual solution in the old town of Villajoyosa.
