A handyman who arrives with a loaded van and clears, in one visit, the list of small home repairs you have been adding to for months: the door that sticks, the dripping tap, the black silicone, the jammed roller shutter, the loose socket, the shelf still on the floor. What a handyman by the hour gets through in a typical visit
An average two- or three-hour visit to a flat in Valencia or Alicante covers four or five different things. The most repeated: replacing the cartridge in a dripping single-lever tap or the sweating flexi hose under the sink; adjusting a door that rubs on the floor or will not close because a hinge has dropped; replacing the strap on a persiana (roller shutter) with an internal box, which in the 60s to 80s blocks of Benimaclet, Patraix or Carolinas is the fault that comes up most; and redoing the silicone around the bath and the worktop. If the shutter strap is the only thing wrong, the dedicated roller shutter repair service has its own fixed price.
Then come the assembly and fixing jobs: hanging an IKEA mirror, putting up a shelf, fitting a curtain pole, anchoring a Billy bookcase so it cannot tip, replacing a cistern mechanism. These are 20-40 minute jobs that are not worth booking separately but together fill a morning. In rented flats the landlord usually sends us the list on WhatsApp and we arrange access with the tenant.
The third block is electrical work without installation: swapping a broken socket or switch for the same type, replacing a light fitting or wall light, changing bulbs in high ceilings, replacing the doorbell. We do it with the power off and without touching cables or the consumer unit. New circuits, consumer units and certificates belong to a licensed electrician and we refer you to one.
And the coastal block: checking over a second home before the owner or a guest arrives. Opening stop valves, flushing limescale out of taps after months closed, checking cisterns, rinsing salt off fly screens, oiling locks, testing shutters and awnings, and sending you the photos. In Torrevieja, Orihuela Costa, Calpe and Dénia it is half our work between October and May.
How we work
- List and photos on WhatsApp. Send us the list and a photo of each item. We tell you how many hours we estimate, what materials are needed and whether anything on the list is not ours (gas, air conditioning with refrigerant, building work). If the list is clear, we fix a total price; if not, we fix the hourly rate and an estimate.
- Visit the same day or within 24 hours. In Valencia, Alicante, Torrevieja and Benidorm we arrive in 20-45 minutes for urgent jobs and book blocks of 2, 4 or 8 hours for long lists. We carry silicone, tap cartridges, flexi hoses, shutter straps, plugs, screws and power tools; specific items (a new tap, a TV bracket) you buy yourself or we bring at shop price with the receipt.
- Payment on completion and a written guarantee. You pay for the hours worked and the materials, in cash, by card, Bizum or bank transfer, with an invoice including IVA (VAT). Six months' guarantee on labour and the manufacturer's warranty on parts.
What affects the price of a handyman
The rate is simple: first hour €35-45, following hours €28-35, half a day €120-150 and a full day €220-280. The handyman hourly rate page has real lists with their totals. What moves the price within that range:
- Area: in Valencia and Alicante city the first hour is at the lower end; in the Marina Alta or in remote urbanisations, at the upper end, because the journey is spread over fewer hours.
- Materials: what we carry in the van (silicone, plugs, cartridges, flexi hoses, shutter strap) is charged at hardware shop prices; specific items you buy yourself or we bring with the receipt.
- Urgency: a job for today is at the upper end; a list for next week at the lower end.
- Hours: outside 8am to 9pm we only attend locksmith and drain emergencies, with a surcharge.
- Length: the longer the list, the cheaper the hour. That is why we recommend saving everything up for one visit.
- Second homes: the monthly check with a photo report costs €45-80 a month depending on the size of the property and the distance.
- Language and admin: we work in Spanish, English and Russian and liaise with tenants, administrators and agencies at no extra charge.
When the list hides a big job
A handyman by the hour is ideal for small things, and our duty is to tell you when something on the list is not small. Examples from every week: the dripping tap turns out to be a corroded main stop valve that will not close and has to be replaced with the building's water shut off; the sticking door is a frame that has moved because of damp and adjusting the hinge is not enough; the sparking socket has burnt cable behind it and that is installation work, not maintenance. In those cases we stop, show you and give you a separate fixed price, or refer you to a licensed plumber, carpenter or electrician.
The other familiar situation is the holiday let that has gone years without maintenance: you walk in with a list of six things and find twenty. For that we have the full day (€220-280) and, if needed, a second day. We send you the list in priority order, what is urgent (safety, water) and what can wait, so you decide. If all you need is a tap or a cistern, the plumber service has a fixed price per repair, and for a door opening or a cylinder change there is the locksmith.

How much does a handyman cost per hour?

Is there a minimum number of hours or a minimum charge?
The minimum is one hour, which is the first hour at €35-45. If the job takes 20 minutes you pay the full hour, so it makes sense to make the most of the visit with two or three more things. There is no call-out fee in Valencia and Alicante city if you accept the quote; if you decide not to do anything after the visit, it is €25 in the city and €35 elsewhere.
What does a handyman by the hour not do?
New electrical installations, consumer units and certificates; gas, boilers and water heaters; air conditioning with refrigerant gas; renovations and works needing a licence. All of that is done by a licensed professional and we put you in touch with one. We do replace sockets, lights, taps, traps, roller shutters and fly screens, and we assemble furniture.
Do I have to be at home during the visit?
Not necessarily. We work every day for owners who live abroad: we collect the key from an agency, the concierge or a key safe, work through the list, send you before-and-after photos and lock up. We can also arrange the time with the tenant if you give us their number.
Can you bring the materials or do I buy them?
Either. We carry consumables in the van (silicone, plugs, cartridges, flexi hoses, shutter strap, bulbs) and charge them with the receipt. For specific items such as a tap, a TV bracket or a particular cistern mechanism, you can buy them yourself or tell us the model and we bring them at shop price with no mark-up.
Do you offer property maintenance for owners living abroad?
Yes. A monthly visit of €45-80 depending on the property and the area: we open stop valves, flush the taps, test cisterns and roller shutters, check for damp and send you a photo report. Before you or a guest arrive, we get the place ready and can take delivery of furniture or appliances if needed.
What guarantee does a handyman's work carry?
Six months in writing on labour: if a tap we fixed drips again or a shelf we put up moves, we come back at no charge. Parts carry the manufacturer's warranty. We have public liability insurance and issue an invoice with VAT on every visit.
