The shower screen faults we see most on the coast
The most common is a sliding door that drops or squeaks. The original rollers are usually plastic on a zinc-plated steel axle, and with the hard water in Alicante and Valencia (over 30 French degrees in many areas) limescale seizes them within a few years. We carry replacement roller sets for the most common profiles (Leroy Merlin, IKEA, Bricodepot, Roca, GME, Kassandra) and change them without taking down the fixed glass. If your model is unusual, we measure the wheel diameter and the profile width and come back with the part. The steps are in the guide to replacing shower screen rollers.
The second is water escaping underneath or at the corner. It is almost never the glass: it is the bottom seal strip, which hardens and shrinks, or the silicone between the profile and the tray, black with mould and peeling off. We replace the seals (drip strip, door seal, magnetic strip) and strip out all the old silicone before applying new anti-mould sealant. A proper reseal takes an hour and the shower cannot be used until the next day.
The third case is the new screen in its box waiting in the hallway. The ones from the big DIY chains come with sparse instructions and the profiles have to be cut to the size of the tray; a 5 mm error and the door will not close. We fit front, corner and bath screens in 2-3 hours, levelling the wall profile against the tray even when the tiles are not plumb, which in 1970s flats is the norm.
We also get called out for hinged screens that will not close or that bang. It is usually the hinge with its adjustment screw loose or a worn magnetic catch. It takes 20-30 minutes to adjust and is covered by the minimum visit charge.
How we work
- Photo on WhatsApp. Send us a photo of the screen (or of the box and the shower tray if it is new) and the size of the opening. From that we give you a fixed price and a visit time.
- Visit the same day or within 24 hours. In Valencia and Alicante we arrive in 20-45 minutes for urgent repairs; for installations we book a block of 2-3 hours. We bring rollers, seals, anti-mould silicone, plugs and stainless steel screws.
- Payment on completion and a written guarantee. Cash, card, Bizum or bank transfer, with an invoice including IVA (VAT). Six months' guarantee on labour and the sealing, plus the manufacturer's warranty on the screen and parts.
What affects the price of fitting a shower screen
The base price is set by the type of screen: a front screen with one fixed panel and one slider is the simplest; a corner screen with two fixed panels and two sliders has twice the profiles and levelling; a hinged bath screen needs the bath rim to be straight and solid. The full figures by type are on the shower screen prices page.
- Whether an old screen has to be removed, with the old silicone and plugs stripped out (€50-65 extra).
- Condition of the wall: loose tiles, unreinforced plasterboard or walls out of square mean packing out the profile.
- Resin or tiled shower tray: resin trays have to be sealed carefully so they are not pierced; tiled trays sometimes have an uneven edge.
- 6 or 8 mm glass and screens over 1.6 m wide, which need two people to handle the panels.
- Parts: if the rollers or seals are for a discontinued model, they are ordered in and charged separately.
- Urgency: a broken screen with glass on the floor is treated as an emergency to clear the debris and leave the shower usable.
When the problem is underneath the screen
There is one case where we do not reseal: when water is getting out but the silicone is fine. Then the leak is at the joint between the tray and the wall, or the tray itself is cracked, and resealing the screen only hides the problem for a couple of weeks. We check with a water test before starting and, if the tray joint has failed, we suggest redoing it with our small building works team or, if the tray is cracked, talk about replacing it.
Another common case in rental apartments in Benidorm and Torrevieja is the screen that so many guests have forced that the profiles are bent. You can change the rollers and seals, but the door will keep coming off. There we are straight with you: a new €150-250 screen from Leroy Merlin fitted by us is better value than €80 of parts every season. Before deciding, read how to fix a sliding shower screen to identify what you have.
Where we fit and repair shower screens
We have pages with local detail for shower screens in Valencia and shower screens in Alicante, the two cities with the most new screens going into renovated flats. In Valencia we cover from Ruzafa and El Carmen out to Benimaclet, Patraix and the towns of the metropolitan area; in Alicante, from the Centro and Carolinas out to Playa de San Juan, Vistahermosa and San Vicente del Raspeig.
On the Costa Blanca we cover Benidorm and the Marina Baixa, with many calls from holiday-let managers, and Torrevieja and Orihuela Costa, where hard water and homes closed up over winter cause no end of roller and seal problems. In Elche, Santa Pola, Calpe, Altea, Jávea and Dénia we arrive in 30-60 minutes. If you also want the shower tap replaced, our plumber does it in the same visit.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to fit a shower screen bought at Leroy Merlin or IKEA?
Between €90 and €140 for a front sliding screen and between €110 and €170 for a corner screen, with anti-mould silicone and stainless steel fixings included. If the old one has to be removed, add €50-65. The price is fixed before we start and does not change even if the fitting turns out to be awkward.
How long do I have to wait to use the shower after resealing?
A minimum of 12 hours; better 24 if the bathroom has no window. Silicone cures with the moisture in the air and, if it gets wet too soon, it peels at the edge and the job has to be redone. We leave the bathroom ventilated and tell you the time from which you can shower.
Can you replace just the rollers without replacing the screen?
Yes, that is the most common job. A set of rollers costs €45-80 fitted and the door slides like new again. What is not worth doing is replacing rollers on a screen with bent profiles or glass chipped along the edge, and we tell you so during the visit.
My screen leaks at the bottom, is it the silicone?
In most cases it is the drip seal along the bottom of the door, which hardens with limescale and stops closing against the tray. It is replaced for €40-70 together with a reseal. If the seal is fine and water still gets out, we check the joint between the tray and the wall before touching anything.
Do you fit shower screens on plasterboard walls?
Yes, with metal plasterboard anchors or, if the profile is going to carry a heavy door, with a timber or metal reinforcement behind the board. If the bathroom was recently renovated, ask whoever did it whether they left reinforcement in the shower area; if there is none, we assess it during the visit.
What if the new screen does not fit my tray?
We check it against the photo and measurements before coming. Most screens have 2-4 cm of adjustment in the wall profiles, which is usually enough. If the tray is smaller than the screen's minimum, we tell you before you open the box so you can return it.
