Villa awnings in Jávea: the faults we see every week

The 6 metre monobloc awning with three arms is the standard on the villas of Tosalet and Balcón al Mar. When one of the three arms loses tension, the awning extends with a ripple and the fabric creases on that side. We replace the centre or side arm for 90-160 € and re-tension the other two on the same visit so the whole thing comes out straight.

The second call is the motor that will not obey after a winter unused. In houses opened up at Easter, the remote has had flat batteries for months and the receiver has lost its programming in some power cut. We reprogram and test before proposing anything; if the motor really has burnt out, we fit a new tubular one with remote for 250-420 €.

The third is fabric torn in a storm. In Cap Martí and Portitxol the levante wind comes in unobstructed and fabric left out with the house empty ends up in shreds. Fitting a new awning on a terrace with a view

Before fitting we measure the opening, the lintel height and the prevailing wind direction, and propose reinforced arms, wall or ceiling brackets depending on the structure, and a motor with wind sensor for awnings over 5 metres. On hollow-block walls we anchor with chemical resin.

For houses with a timber pergola in La Lluca and Cansalades we fit tensioned fabric or guided awnings over the existing structure. For pool areas with no wall nearby, a 3x3 shade sail fitted costs 180-320 €, with stainless steel posts and tensioners.
