What breaks in a Dénia house

Dénia has more timber than most towns on the coast. The villas of Les Marines, La Pedrera and El Montgó were built with pine or iroko exterior doors, wooden shutters and timber porches. With the sea humidity, which is high here all year round, the doors swell in autumn and jam against the frame. We plane the latch side, seal the edge with marine varnish and adjust the lock so it closes without forcing.

Hardware is the second front. In Les Rotes and the Puerto the salt air rusts hinge pins, espagnolette bolts and latches within two or three winters. We replace them with stainless steel or brass and, if the timber is chewed up around the screws, fill it and refix.

In the flats of the Centro and the Puerto, many of them holiday lets, the work is more interior: chipboard doors that have dropped, sliding wardrobe doors with split rollers, bathroom doors with a broken privacy lock. We fix it in one visit and, if you manage several flats, we group them.

How we work in Dénia and the Marina Alta

Send a photo of the problem by WhatsApp and tell us the area (Les Marines, La Xara, Jesús Pobre, the Puerto). Fixed price. If you accept, the call-out is included; if you only want us to look and then do not go ahead, it is 35 €. Many of our customers are German or British owners who are not at the house: we collect the key wherever you tell us and send photos when the job is done.

Hours are Monday to Sunday, 8am to 9pm. Payment when we finish, by cash, card, Bizum or bank transfer, with an invoice including IVA (VAT). Labour carries a 6-month written guarantee. We speak Spanish, English and Russian.

What moves the price in Dénia

Solid timber versus hollow, above all. A 45 mm iroko front door on a villa in El Montgó weighs 40 kilos and takes two people to lift off; that sits at the top of the range or a little above, and we say so beforehand. Interior doors in the flats of the Puerto are quick.

When the door is hiding another problem

Swollen exterior doors in Dénia are sometimes swollen because water is getting in at the threshold or through a gap round the lock. If we lift the door and find the timber black along the bottom, it needs cutting out and a new section let in before planing, and sometimes the weather bar needs looking at. We quote for it on the spot.
