How much does a carpenter charge? Fitting, adjusting a door and replacing hinges
A carpenter who comes to your home charges between €40 and €70 in Valencia, Alicante and on the Costa Blanca to adjust a door that sticks, €50-90 to replace the hinges and €90-150 to hang an interior door in an existing frame. We give a fixed price by WhatsApp from a photo and come the same day or within 24 hours.

What a carpenter charges to hang a door and for other jobs
Most carpentry call-outs in a flat are small: a door that rubs on the new floor, a hinge that has dropped, a sliding wardrobe door that has come off its track. They are one- to two-hour jobs that are quoted from a photo and charged at a fixed price. This is our table for 2026, with IVA (VAT) and travel included.
The prices are for labour. The door leaf, the hinges or the handle you buy yourself (at Leroy Merlin, Bricodepot or a local joinery) or we bring them and invoice them separately with the receipt.

Carpenter prices by town
In central Valencia (Ruzafa, El Carmen, Extramurs) we add 10-15 % for the time spent parking and carrying tools up in blocks without a lift. In Alicante the base rate applies. In Torrevieja and Benidorm the price is the same as Alicante except in outlying urbanisations, where it can go up by as much as 10 %.

What changes the price
The same call about "the door will not close" can be solved in 20 minutes by tightening screws or take two hours of planing the leaf and resetting the frame. These are the factors that change the price:
- The real cause of the fault. Loose hinges are fixed quickly; a frame out of square from damp or the building settling takes more work.
- Type of door. A solid timber door from the old blocks in central Alicante weighs twice as much as a chipboard one and needs two people.
- Number of doors. Planing all 6 doors in a flat after laying laminate works out at €35-45 per door instead of €40-70 for a single one.
- Special hardware. Concealed hinges, IKEA PAX sliding wardrobe doors or soft-close fittings take longer to adjust.
- Materials to be sourced. If old-size hinges or a 72.5 cm door leaf have to be tracked down, the shopping time is charged.
- Condition of the sub-frame. Hanging a new door in a twisted sub-frame means packing and filling with foam.
- Access. No lift, no parking nearby, or outlying urbanisations.
- Urgency. An urgent same-day carpenter for a front door that will not close carries a €20-30 surcharge; an interior door can wait for the next free slot.
What the price includes and what it does not
Included in the fixed price: travel, labour, small materials (screws, rawlplugs, wedges, wood glue, expanding foam, wood filler), final adjustment and sweeping up the shavings. A 6-month written guarantee on what we have done.
Not included: the door leaf, new hinges, handles or locks, varnishing or lacquering the door, and building work in the opening. If on taking the door down we find the frame is rotten from damp, we stop and give you a new price before going on. For front-door locks we work with our locksmith service, which has its own price table.
Real examples with the total
Bathroom door rubbing on the floor in Benimaclet (Valencia). After laying laminate, the door would not close. Taken down, 8 mm taken off with an electric planer, sanded and rehung: 50 minutes. Total: €55, IVA included.
Two sliding wardrobe doors off their track in Playa de San Juan (Alicante). Bottom rollers worn by salt air. 4 rollers replaced (supplied by us, €18) and the track adjusted: 1.5 hours. Total: €95 with materials.

How to save money and which offers to avoid
The carpenter who advertises "doors from €25" usually charges that just to come and look; the actual repair is billed by the hour with no cap and often without an invoice. Always ask for the total price in writing (a WhatsApp is fine) before anyone comes.
To make the job cheaper:
- Group all the doors into one visit; adjusting the second and subsequent doors costs 30-40 % less.
- Buy the hardware yourself with the sizes we give you from a photo; you avoid the hour of shopping.
- Send one photo of the hinge and another of the gap between door and frame: we often give an exact price without a visit.
- If you have just laid a new floor, ask for all the doors to be planed at once, with the laminate freshly down.
- Combine it with other repairs (shutters, silicone, hanging pictures) and it comes out at the handyman by the hour rate.
When it is worth doing it yourself
A door that rubs slightly because of a loose hinge is fixed by tightening the screws or swapping them for longer ones, as we explain in the guide door rubbing on the floor. Frequently asked questions
Do the carpenter's prices include IVA?
Yes, every price in this table includes 21 % IVA and we issue an invoice for every job, even a €45 door adjustment. If the flat is let, the invoice lets you deduct the expense.
Do you charge a call-out fee?
Not when you accept the quote. If you ask for a visit to assess the job and it then does not go ahead, we charge €25 in Valencia and Alicante city or €35 in the rest of the Costa Blanca. With a good photo, most doors are quoted without a visit.
How much does a carpenter charge per hour?
Between €35 and €45 an hour in Valencia and Alicante, with a one-hour minimum. We only apply it when the job cannot be measured in advance, for example repairing an old piece of furniture. For doors, hinges and sliding doors we always give a fixed price.
Do you do urgent or weekend jobs?
We work Monday to Sunday from 8am to 9pm with no surcharge. A front door that will not close we attend the same day with an urgency surcharge of €20-30. Outside those hours we only go out for locksmith and drain emergencies.
How do I pay?
When the job is done, in cash, by card, Bizum or bank transfer. For small jobs we do not ask for a deposit. If we buy a door leaf or expensive hardware ourselves, we ask for the cost of the materials in advance and account for it with the receipt.
What guarantee comes with the work?
6 months in writing on the labour. If a door we adjusted rubs again or a hinge we fitted works loose, we come back at no cost. New hardware carries the manufacturer's warranty. We do not cover timber warping from later damp.
Do you fit front doors or security doors?
We change locks and cylinders on front doors with our locksmith service, and we adjust wooden front doors that stick. Installing a new reinforced or armoured door is done by a specialist partner installer; we give you the contact.
