Fly screens for Dénia homes: porches, damp and tiger mosquitoes

Dénia has marshland to the north, the Montgó behind and the sea in front. Between April and October there are tiger mosquitoes in every urbanisation with a garden, which is why almost every villa call is for the porch and living room doors. We fit pleated screens with a 20 mm track that leave the way clear, cope with openings up to 3 metres and do not sag with use.

In the flats by the Puerto, in Les Rotes and on the front line of Les Marines the problem is corrosion. A sliding screen with zinc-plated steel rollers seizes within two summers. Ours have nylon rollers with a stainless steel axle and stainless steel screws, and the mesh is PVC-coated fibreglass, which does not degrade in the sun.

In the village houses of the Centro, La Xara and Jesús Pobre there are casement windows in wood or replacement aluminium with no outer track. There the answer is a vertical roller screen on the frame or, when the frame is old timber, a fixed screen with a screwed frame and tensioned mesh. How we work with Dénia owners, whether they are at the house or not

Many of our customers are German and British and are in Dénia a few weeks a year. We ask for photos of the openings on WhatsApp, give a fixed price and, if they are away, measure with the key from the agent or a neighbour. We make and fit before they arrive, with photos and the invoice by email. We speak English, Spanish and Russian.

Fly screen prices in Dénia

The type sets the range, and the size places the price within it: a 2.8 m porch with a pleated screen is at the upper end; a bathroom window with a sliding screen, at the lower end. Coloured profiles (bronze, RAL powder-coated to match the villa's joinery) add 5-15 € per unit. Cat-proof reinforced mesh, anti-pollen mesh and high-visibility mesh for living rooms with sea views, 10-25 € more per opening.

What tends to get complicated in a villa

The porches of 1980s and 90s villas in El Montgó and La Pedrera often have uneven terracotta floors and round pillars. The bottom track of a pleated screen needs a flat base; where there is none, we fit a levelling profile or switch to a double-leaf side roller screen. We decide that at the measuring stage, not on fitting day.

If the old fly screen will not slide and the awning on the same porch will not retract either, we check everything in one visit with the awnings in Dénia team. And if the wooden door onto the porch has swollen and will not close, the carpenter in Dénia adjusts it the same day.

We do not do glass porch enclosures or fly screens for security grilles. In rental flats where drilling is not allowed, we fit roller screens with structural tape or sliding screens without screws, as explained in the guide to no-drill fly screens.
