The village houses of the Old Town have hundred-year-old wooden doors with old-format mortice locks that are no longer made. We open without damage when they slam shut (€60-90 in the daytime), adapt new locks to the old mortice (€80-150 plus the lock) and change bombines (lock cylinders) for €40-60 plus the cylinder. Plumber in Altea: old pipework in village houses
In the Old Town and Altea la Vella the pipework is iron or lead with stopcocks that will not close, and the bathrooms were refitted in the 1980s with Roca cisterns. Can you change the lock on an old wooden door without changing the door?
Yes. We measure the mortice and the backset of the old lock and find a compatible mortice lock, or adapt the recess with a timber packer. It costs €80-150 in labour plus the lock. The door looks the same from the outside.
How do you park in Altea Old Town?
We leave the van in the nearest car park and carry the tools up on foot. We do not charge for that time. If your house is on a street with residents-only access, let us know and we work out the best option.
My villa in Altea Hills is closed until spring. Will you check it?
Yes. We go once a month with the key from your agency or concierge, check the water, cisterns, taps, awnings, locks and damp, and send you photos. It costs €45-80 a month. Anything that needs fixing we quote at a fixed price by WhatsApp.
