Plumber prices per repair

We charge per repair, not per hour: you know the total before we arrive and it is in our interest to solve it quickly. When the job does not fit any row (a leak that has to be traced, several small things), we apply €35-45 for the first hour and €28-35 for each hour after that, the same as our handyman. Prices include IVA; parts are noted in each row.

Plumber prices by town

The difference between areas is small: central Valencia is 10-15 % more because of parking and older blocks with stopcocks that will not close; Alicante is the standard rate; Torrevieja and Benidorm up to 10 % more in outlying urbanisations and tower blocks with restricted working hours. What changes a plumber's price

• The part. A mixer tap cartridge costs €8-20; a universal cistern mechanism €15-25 and an original Roca or Geberit one €30-60; a kitchen tap anywhere from €40 to €300. We give you options before buying anything.
• The stopcocks. If the isolation valve or the main stopcock will not close (normal in 1960s-80s blocks in Valencia and Alicante), they have to be replaced first, sometimes by shutting off the building's water, and that adds €35-60 per valve.
• Access. A kitchen tap with an empty cupboard underneath is swapped in 40 minutes; one under a stone worktop with nuts seized by limescale can take twice as long.
• Limescale. Costa Blanca water is very hard. Nuts, offset connectors and mechanisms seized by limescale are worked on carefully so as not to break what is behind them, and sometimes parts that were not supposed to be touched have to be replaced.
• Time and day. From 8am to 9pm, Monday to Sunday, normal rate. At night and on public holidays, the emergency row, with the surcharge already included.
• Several repairs together. From the second repair in the same visit the labour comes down: replacing a tap and a cistern on the same day works out €20-30 cheaper than over two visits.
• Type of property. In holiday flats in Benidorm and Torrevieja we work with management companies who give us the key; arranging it is free, but the hours allowed by the comunidad de vecinos (residents' association) can mean a second visit.

What the price includes and what it does not

Included: travel within the town if you accept the quote, the repair with the part shown in the table, new flexi hoses when we replace a tap, PTFE tape, seals and silicone, a pressure test with the water on, tidying up, an invoice with IVA and a 6-month written guarantee on the labour. If on arrival we find the fault is something else, we give you the new price before starting and you decide.

Not included: the new tap, toilet or appliance (you buy it, or we bring it at shop price with the receipt), stopcocks that have to be replaced before we can work, building work to reach a pipe buried in the wall, and anything that needs a licensed installer: gas, boilers, water heaters, central heating and the boletín (certificate) for a new water connection. For those we pass you to a certified partner. If you do not accept the quote after the visit, we charge the call-out only: €25 in Valencia and Alicante city, €35 elsewhere.

Three real repairs with the total

• Dripping kitchen mixer tap in Carolinas, Alicante. 35 mm ceramic cartridge worn by limescale. Cartridge replaced, aerator cleaned and flexi hoses checked. Total: €67 including IVA (€55 labour and €12 cartridge), 30 minutes.
• Roca cistern that keeps running in a bungalow in Torrevieja (Aguas Nuevas). Flush valve with a warped seal and the float jammed by limescale. Full mechanism replaced with a compatible dual-flush one. Total: €85 including IVA, mechanism included, 45 minutes. Invoiced to the agency that manages the rental.
• Basin tap replaced and washing machine plumbed in, in a flat in Benimaclet, Valencia. Tap bought by the customer at Leroy Merlin, new hoses and isolation valves, washing machine connected to the existing supply with the waste into the trap. Total: €140 including IVA (€70 for the tap, €50 for the washing machine and €20 materials), an hour and a half.

How to avoid the "24-hour plumber from €20" traps

Plumbing has fewer abuses than locksmithing, but the scheme exists: an advert for an "emergency plumber from €20", a phone number that will not quote, an operative who charges €60-90 for a "diagnosis" or "visit" before doing anything, and then parts at three times their price or a recommendation to replace the whole installation because of a dripping tap. Night emergencies, with water running down the hallway, are when they take advantage most.

• Turn off the main stopcock before calling anyone. With the water off, the emergency stops being one and you can compare prices without pressure.
• Ask for a fixed price by WhatsApp with a photo of the tap, the cistern or the leak. We reply with a figure that includes the part, the travel and the surcharge if it is at night.
• Ask the price of the part before it is fitted. A cartridge or a cistern mechanism has a known price in any ferretería (hardware shop).
• Be wary of anyone who proposes replacing the whole installation without showing you where the problem is.
• Check that the company has a name, NIF (tax number) and address, and pay by card or Bizum with an invoice.
• Save the number of a plumber you trust before you need one, and make a note of where the main stopcock is in your home.

When you can do it yourself and when to call

Some plumbing repairs are within reach of anyone with an adjustable spanner and half an hour, and we write the guides so you can do them: how to fix a dripping tap, how to replace a tap cartridge, what to do if the toilet cistern keeps running or is not filling, and how to replace a kitchen tap if the isolation valves close properly. The materials cost €10-40 and you save the cost of the repair.

Call when the stopcocks will not close (force a 40-year-old isolation valve and it snaps, and you have a flood), when the leak is inside the wall or the floor, when water is coming through the neighbour's ceiling, when the tap nut is welded on by limescale, and when the fitting is expensive: a €250 tap that is overtightened cracks. And for anything involving gas, a boiler or a water heater, call a licensed installer, not us and not a handyman.
