Torrevieja's plumbing faults: limescale, months unused and sea air
Torrevieja's water leaves heavy limescale on anything holding standing water. In a home closed in October and opened in April, the cistern float sticks, the flush valve does not seal and the single-lever tap squeals and drips at the first use. These are the repairs we do most in Los Balcones, La Siesta, San Luis and Lago Jardín in spring: new cistern mechanism, cartridge or tap, and stainless steel flexi hoses to replace the rusted braided ones.
In the flats of Playa del Cura, Los Locos, La Mata and the Centro the problem shifts to salt air: utility-area stopcocks that will not turn, worn-out washing machine taps and steel connections eaten away from the outside. Checking the property before you arrive, and what we do not do
Many owners ask us for a visit in May, before they arrive: open the mains stopcock, check flexi hoses, cistern, taps and water heater, and fix whatever is leaking. That way they do not find a leak on the first day of the holiday or a three-month water bill from a cistern that has been running on its own. If you would rather have a regular check, we offer it as handyman by the hour in Torrevieja.
What we do not do: gas, boilers, gas water heaters and water certificates for new supply connections. Those are licensed jobs and in Torrevieja we refer them to our authorised partner. An electric water heater leaking at the flexi hose we do fix; one that does not heat is a job for the electrician or the manufacturer's service.

My cistern keeps filling after being shut all winter. What is it?

Can you do the repair with the key from the agent?
Yes. You tell us which agent or neighbour has the key, we sign for it, do the job and send you before-and-after photos with the invoice. It is the usual arrangement with owners from the UK, Norway, Belgium or Russia who do not come out until summer.
How long do you take to reach Los Balcones or La Mata?
Between 20 and 40 minutes, as in the rest of Torrevieja, 8am to 9pm every day. For gated urbanisations we ask you to let the security guard know. Outside those hours we only go out for leaks that cannot be shut off at the mains stopcock, at the night rate.
Do you charge a call-out fee in Torrevieja?
Not if you accept the fixed price we send you on WhatsApp. If you decide not to go ahead with the repair once we are there, we charge 35 € for the trip. In Orihuela Costa, Guardamar or Ciudad Quesada the same rule applies.
Do you repair gas water heaters or electric water heaters?
