Alicante's typical plumbing faults: limescale, salt air and second homes
Alicante has some of the hardest water in Spain. In the 1970s flats of the Centro, Carolinas, Benalúa or San Blas you see it in the two-handle taps: the washers scale up, the handle turns without closing fully and the drip never stops. In basins and bidets limescale closes the aerators and the traps. We strip down, clean what can be saved and replace cartridges, washers or the whole tap when the limescale has eaten the seat.
In the flats of Playa de San Juan, Albufereta and Cabo de las Huertas the enemy is double: salt air that corrodes braided flexi hoses, and stopcocks that have not been turned for months because the home was shut. When the owner arrives in June, opens the mains stopcock and the leak appears. We check flexi hoses, isolation valves and the cistern in a single visit and replace whatever is past it.

What is not a small repair
Sometimes the tap is only the symptom. If in a flat in Carolinas the pressure drops when the neighbour turns on the water, or the cistern takes ten minutes to fill in the whole building, the problem is in the riser or the community's pressure pump. We tell you after checking your flat's stopcock and do not charge for a pointless repair. The same if the hot water is slow or lukewarm: that is usually the water heater, not the taps.

If the tap is a two-handle type with scaled-up washers, the repair comes in at the lower end; if it is a single-lever tap with a ceramic cartridge, the cartridge is included for most common models. If the body is pitted by limescale, we suggest replacing it: labour is 45-80 €.
Will you come to a flat in Playa de San Juan that is shut all winter?
Yes. We can collect the key from the agent or the neighbour you name, check flexi hoses, cistern and stopcock, and send you photos and the invoice on WhatsApp or by email. Many owners ask for this check in May, before they arrive, so they do not find a leak on holiday.
Do you replace the cistern mechanism or do I have to buy one first?

What if the leak is inside the wall?
First we rule out what is accessible: flexi hoses, trap, toilet seal, isolation valve. If the leak is buried, we tell you and pass you to a trusted builder; opening the wall is building work and we do not do it without a separate quote. We do not charge for telling you it is not our job.
