What we fix most in Valencia flats

The 1960s-80s buildings of Patraix, L'Olivereta, Rascanya and La Saïdia have solid or chipboard interior doors in timber frames. Over the years the frame gives, the door drops two or three millimetres and rubs the floor or misses the latch. We sort it on the same visit: reset the hinges, pack the frame and, if needed, plane the bottom edge.

In the refurbished flats of Ruzafa, El Carmen and Camins al Grau the problem is different. A new floor went in (laminate or 10-12 mm porcelain) without trimming the doors, and now they rub. We trim the door with a plunge saw and guide rail, tidy the edge and the door opens clear of the floor again. Between 40 and 70 € per door.

Third common case: built-in wardrobes with sliding doors in bedrooms in Benicalap, Quatre Carreres and Algirós. The nylon rollers split, the bottom track bends and the door sits crooked. How we work in Valencia

Send us a photo of the door or wardrobe by WhatsApp and the neighbourhood you are in. From that we give a fixed price. If you accept, there is no call-out charge; if you would rather we look in person and then do not go ahead, a visit within Valencia city costs 25 €.

We arrive in 25-45 minutes across most of the city. In El Cabanyal and Poblats Marítims we tend to take a little longer because of parking, so we give you an approximate time. We work Monday to Sunday, 8am to 9pm, charge when the job is done (cash, card, Bizum or bank transfer) and leave an invoice including IVA (VAT) and a 6-month written guarantee on the labour.

What changes a carpenter's price in Valencia

The biggest factor is the type of door. A hollow chipboard door is planed in ten minutes; a solid 1970s door with two coats of paint takes twice as long and sometimes the latch needs replacing too. Old pin hinges, very common in Extramurs and Jesús, are replaced with butt hinges, which means cutting new recesses in the frame.

With wardrobes it matters whether the track is aluminium or pressed steel. Bent steel tracks do not straighten well and are replaced whole (about 20-35 € more in materials). With flooring, the price per metre depends on whether an old floor has to come up and on the number of cuts: a narrow hallway takes longer per m² than an open living room. When the job is bigger than it looks

Sometimes we are called for a door that rubs and find the frame loose from the wall because the hollow brick has crumbled round the plugs. Adjusting hinges will not do there: the lining has to be re-anchored with polyurethane foam and frame screws, and the plaster made good. We do it, but we tell you about the change in price first.

Another typical Valencia case is the wooden front doors of older buildings that swell in autumn with the humidity. Planing helps, but if the door no longer closes properly on the bombín (lock cylinder), a locksmith should look at it. What we do not do: complete made-to-measure wardrobes, new kitchen units or aluminium joinery. For simple melamine wardrobes (shelves, top cupboard interiors, an extra door) we do give a price.
