The most common shutter faults in Valencia's older blocks
A snapped strap is call number one. In the 1960s and 70s blocks of Patraix, Jesús, L'Olivereta and La Saïdia the shutters are PVC with an internal box of timber or chipboard and a 22 mm strap that frays in the sun and finally snaps on a Monday morning. We open the box, replace the strap and check the winder spring in 40 minutes for 35-60 €. If the winder no longer retracts, we replace that too.
The second is the dropped shutter: one or more slats have come out of the guide and the shutter goes up crooked or stops halfway. It happens a lot in rental flats in Benimaclet and Algirós where the shutter has been yanked up. We take off the box cover, reposition the slats on the axle, replace the broken hanger straps and leave it running straight for 50-120 €.
The third is the shutter that will not lift even with force: a broken axle, a cracked pulley or swollen slats in the galerías (utility balconies) of Poblats Marítims and El Cabanyal. Motorising the shutter in a renovated Valencia flat
In the renovations of Ruzafa, El Carmen and Extramurs the shutter box often ends up hidden behind plasterboard and the strap stops being practical. We motorise the existing shutter with a tubular motor and a wall switch or remote for 180-320 €, motor included, as long as there is a power point near the box. If a new cable has to be run from the consumer unit, a registered electrician we work with does it.
We also repair shutter motors that have stopped responding: it is nearly always the limit switch out of adjustment or the wall switch, not the motor. We check that before proposing a new one, because a motor costs more than a visit.

When the shutter is not worth repairing
A 1970 PVC shutter with yellowed, brittle slats and half the hanger straps broken will not survive another repair: every time you lift it another slat will snap. In that case we propose replacing the whole shutter with a new aluminium or PVC one on the same box and quote it from the size of the opening. We say so on the first visit, not after charging for three repairs.

How much does a roller shutter strap replacement cost in Valencia?

Yes. In Valencia city we arrive in 25-45 minutes, 8:00 to 21:00, Monday to Sunday. A shutter stuck down in a bedroom counts as urgent for us; we carry straps, winders and hanger straps in the van and it is almost always fixed on the same visit.
Do you repair shutters with the box hidden behind plasterboard?
Yes, if the box has an access hatch. If the renovation sealed it in with no access, a hatch has to be cut in the plasterboard, which adds some work, and the paint needs touching up afterwards. We see it in the photo and give you the full price before starting.
What if the shutter has dropped and has broken slats at the same time?
We fix it on the same visit: we reposition the shutter on the axle, replace the snapped hanger straps and replace the broken slats. For 1-3 slats the price is 50-100 € on top of the dropped shutter repair; if there are many, it usually makes more sense to replace the whole shutter and we tell you.
Is the strap replacement guaranteed?
Yes, 6 months in writing on the invoice, on labour. If the new strap comes out of the winder or the spring slackens within that time, we come back at no cost. The straps we fit are 22 mm polyester, which last a good deal longer than the old cotton ones.
