The small building jobs Alicante asks for most
In the flats of Playa de San Juan, Albufereta and Cabo de las Huertas the salt air and humidity never stop. The first job on the list is flaking plaster and bubbled paint on walls and ceilings from old damp that has already dried: a terrace that used to leak, a pipe that was fixed years ago. We cut back to sound plaster, apply a bonding primer, repair with filler or repair mortar and leave it ready for paint. Between 50 and 120 € per patch.
In the 1970s flats of the Centro, Carolinas, San Blas and Pla del Bon Repòs the usual call is a loose or cracked tile in the kitchen or bathroom, and shower grout that has gone black with mould and no longer cleans up. In the villas of Vistahermosa, Cabo de las Huertas and Tómbola the work is mostly outdoors: open terrace joints letting water through to the flat below, loose garden steps, lifted paving around the pool, and fixings for an awning or pergola in a blockwork wall. How we work in Alicante
Send a photo of the damage by WhatsApp, with something in shot for scale, and tell us which part of Alicante you are in. For a defined job we give you a fixed price; for a mixed list we give an estimate in hours at 30-40 € with a capped maximum. No call-out fee if you accept; 25 € if you ask for a visit within Alicante city and then decide not to go ahead.

What a builder costs in Alicante and what moves the price
The hourly rate is 30-40 € including IVA, one hour minimum. The surface decides most of it: in the 1970s blocks of the Centro the partition walls are hollow brick and old ceramic tiles come off quickly; in the recent refurbishments of Playa de San Juan the rectified porcelain is bonded with high-grab adhesive and every piece takes twice as long. Outdoors, terrace repair mortar and polyurethane sealant cost more than interior plaster.
Drying times matter too. A dried damp patch is done in two passes 24 hours apart, and a regrouted shower needs 24 hours before it is used. When the repair is hiding live damp
Before we repair a flaking patch we measure the moisture in the wall. If it is still wet, the stain will be back within weeks. In Alicante the usual culprits are the shower screen seal, a basin flexi hose, the terrace of the flat above or, in ground-floor flats in Albufereta, rising damp from the ground. The same goes for cracks. A fine horizontal crack where the partition meets the ceiling or above a door frame is repaired with mesh and filler and does not come back. A diagonal crack that keeps growing, one that crosses a load-bearing wall, or one that appears on several floors of the tower is something to show the administrator and a surveyor before anyone touches it.

How much does a builder charge per hour in Alicante?

If the damp has dried, yes: we cut back, apply a bonding primer and anti-damp paint or filler, and leave it ready for painting, 50-120 € per patch. We check the wall with a moisture meter first. If it is still wet we trace the cause (terrace above, downpipe, shower screen) and repair afterwards, because covering it earlier is money wasted.
Can you fit the fixings for an awning on the front of my villa?
Yes. We drill and set chemical or mechanical anchors to suit the wall (block, brick, concrete) for an awning bracket or a light pergola, to the load the manufacturer specifies. It is charged by the hour, usually 1-2 hours. If we are fitting the awning ourselves, the fixings are included in the awning's fixed price.
How quickly can you come?
Within 20 to 40 minutes to any neighbourhood of Alicante, 8am to 9pm, Monday to Sunday, for jobs we can do with what is in the van (filler, plaster, tile adhesive, grout, sealants). Is the work guaranteed?
Six months in writing on the labour, stated on the invoice with IVA. If a tile we replaced comes loose, a regrout cracks or a repaired patch opens up again within that time because of our work, we come back at no cost. If the cause is live damp you chose not to fix, we note that before we start. We carry public liability insurance.
